About this deal

Kareena dreams of having a perfect love story like her parents did. That’s why on the morning of her thirtieth birthday, she’s decided to suit up and enter the dating arena. When her widowed father announces he’s retiring and selling their home after her sister’s engagement party, Kareena makes a deal with him. If she can find her soulmate by the date of the party, he’ll gift her the house, and she’ll be able to keep her mother’s legacy alive. She was going to start dating again. She was ready. The list of qualities she wanted in her perfect man was ready to go. It had been waiting neglected in her notes app for far too long. This story had fake dates/engagements, meddling with family members, funny jokes, strong female lead, emphasis on important issues, a bit of spice and romance. I had heard a lot about this book (and as always I was late for the train) but better late than never and I loved this book!

When her widowed father announces after her sister’s engagement party that she is retiring and selling her house, Kareena makes a deal with him. If she can find her soulmate by the date of the party, he will give her her house and she will be able to keep her mother’s legacy alive. NINA: Sorry the bank had to schedule this on your thirtieth birthday, though. I can’t believe you’re general counsel of an incredible company at such a young age! You are here: Home / A Review / Review: Dating Dr. Dil by Nisha Sharma Review: Dating Dr. Dil by Nisha Sharma Kareena dreams of having a perfect love story like her parents had. So, on the morning of her thirtieth birthday, she decided to dress up and enter the dating arena.Okay, but . . . well, aren’t we celebrating?” Kareena responded in the same mix of Hindi, English, and Punjabi her grandmother used. Here’s the situation: both Kareena and Prem have reasons for needing to get engaged. They had what I would call a hot “partial” hookup, no spoilers, but what keeps Kareena from agreeing to Prem’s proposal of a fake engagement is their fundamental, philosophical difference on the matter of relationships. Kareena is looking for a Jeevansathi, a life partner. She believes in love marriages, like the one her parents had. Prem believes that what is mistaken as love is a fleeting biochemical reaction. He believes in arranged marriages based on compatibility, communication, and resulting in what to Kareena seems like a very businesslike relationship. As a result, Kareena only agrees to the fake engagement after she exhausts all her other online dating options before her 4 month deadline. Her Aunties, who are described as “progressive” in the novel (and definitely come across that way), help her in her journey. But like a Greek chorus, they know which way the wind is blowing. Even though they have warring interests, the more time Prem spends with Kareena, the more he thinks she’s might actually be the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. In this Taming of the Shrew re-imagination, for Prem and Kareena to find their happily ever after, they must admit that hate has turned into fate.

If you're interested in learning more about the genesis of the story, here is a Dear Reader letter to share some insight. She met her father’s eyes as he rose from his seat. He was dressed for work in khakis with a phone clip on his belt. “ You don’t want to celebrate today anyway,” he said as he rounded the table to give her a hug. “ Thirty is your first infertility milestone.” It is an extraordinary piece of work, a perfect balancing act with terror on one side and love on the other. This exceptionally well-written novel is all about suspense, thrill and drama, including the relationships between generations and what happens between long-standing friends. The characters are sensitively portrayed, as is their recovery, and the hopeful ending is realistic. Readers of domestic dramas will be enthralled. For those who love gritty, somewhat nasty mysteries with weird, and an exotic setting in one of the world’s most famous cities, this thriller mystery will satisfy. It is perfect for a long plane trip or a rainy weekend.
