About this deal

If you only want to remove some of the bulk with the Bodygroom 5000, you can use any of the included guards that suit your preference. By the way, the post I’ve mentioned previously only discusses head shavers as I thought you were looking to get one of those, not a regular hair clipper.

I recommend removing the foil head and washing the bottom part of it as well as there will be lots of clipped hairs trapped there. Since it has the same foil head, the performance is really similar, minus the ergonomics of that swiveling head. The Norelco Bodygroom 5000 (BG5025/40) is fitted with a rechargeable Li-ion battery that can provide approximately one hour of cordless trimming. Yes since I am looking for a trimmer, I was a bit puzzled at first, when I saw an article on shavers and not trimmers. Philips promises 80 minutes of cordless use for its BG7030/BG7040 which is significantly better than the previous models that could only provide around 45 to 50 minutes worth of shaving time. The shaver end of the Bodygroom 7000 can still flex in 4 directions (up and down, left to right), but the range of motion is now a bit smaller and it’s not jerky during use anymore (more details in the performance section of the review).

The shaver head features patented rounded tips and a hypo-allergenic foil to protect your skin while shaving. The trimmer has an adjustable integrated comb, which - at the press of a button - can be adjusted to accommodate trimming to five lengths of 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11mm. Since it’s fully waterproof and suitable to be used in the shower, the Bodygroom 7000 will not work with the cord plugged in as a safety precaution. For that reason, I think using a lubricating spray for clippers and shavers from time to time (like the Andis CoolCare Plus) would be beneficial. Philips says this gives you a closer shave with fewer passes and less pressure, minimising irritation and maximising results.

On the back of the Norelco Bodygroom 5000, we only have black plastic, even though it looks like the rubberized front part. Trimming armpit hair with the Bodygroom 5000 is also a lot faster than with other types of body groomers. So you would use the foil head (identical to the one on the Bodygroom 5000) to shave the groin area or any other part at skin level, and the other trimmer head (with the comb) for everything else. Personally, I’ve never been a fan of shaving in the shower as it just makes everything more difficult and tedious, but you can do it if you choose so.

I guess the only downside of the Bodygroom Series 7000 would be that it doesn’t have an extra-long handle attachment, so if you shave your back yourself, you should consider a groomer that comes with such an accessory. With the Bodygroom 5000, I strongly recommend using slower and shorter strokes especially if the hair is longer (anything more than 5mm). Another advantage of any Bodygroom trimmer is that the head never seems to clog with hair, so you won’t have to constantly stop and clean it.
