About this deal

Bedside reading projects are fated to be long-term because I am lucky to read two paragraphs before my eyes close. fatherless girl, her brother, and her widowed mother have as they all learn to handle the ranch that William Raymond Morley left them after he was shot. The story starts when she is just a young girl and takes the reader all the way until around the time she's in her 60s or so (doesn't really say explicitly).

Sin embargo, tarde mucho en leerlo porque no me sentía atraída por la historia, no me generaba esas ganas de seguir con el siguiente capítulo. It has all the fun elements of an amateur woman sleuth, sort of like Enola Holmes (but far less capable). But more than anything else, what Violet wants is to find her mother, Lily, who vanished 10 years ago.

There are ladies who don’t like what they are made for, the cleaning and the domestic business, the caring and the mothering. I enjoyed reading about how she outsmarted the creepy suitors her father found and her hilarious verbal exchanges with Benjamin Blackthorn and Maria Monk and four stars from me.

This particular author is new to me but it sounds like she has written a number of Regency romances but from a smaller publisher and it looks like she has quite a fan base established and I am super excited to share more about this upcoming series with you guys today! Violet, though, is persistent and has soon managed to convince him that she can interview prospective female clients and even carry out investigative work for him. While I have many thoughts on this book (and all of them good), in an effort not to give away the plot, all I will say is I highly recommend this book. I enjoyed reading about Agnes' childhood adventures more than her mishaps as an adult, feeling a little reminiscent of those days listening to my grandparents retelling stories of their youth. It is 1886, 18-year-old Violet Hamilton says goodbye to her mother as she head off a party on Hastings Pier to never been seen again.
