About this deal

Looking back over the last five volumes, a picture emerges of a long companionship that is slowly disintegrating because the two friends no longer share the same goals. But even though that misunderstanding is cleared up and they agree to go out together to the cinema on The Day, Kakeru is so agitated at the prospect of going on ‘a date’ with Yamato that he spends a sleepless night with the inevitable consequences. They are completely normal high school students who have lived a generally happy and uneventful life. Here are the three things that drew me to this: It's a slow-burn BL romance (the romance seems to burn at your emotions in the most satisfying way), a manga (so I get to see everything happen in such a pretty art style!

Both boys are always thinking of the other and trying to help each other, but can’t quite seem to connect. It's a story that effectively combines the slice-of-life, fantasy, and underdog genres in a digestible package. At the end of Volume 4, Yamato hugged Kakeru, saying, “I’m gonna work so much harder… so you’ll like me back. This book has such a slow burn with interrupted confession scenes, misunderstandings, and several romantic tropes.Having been established since February 2004, Anime UK News is constantly striving to deliver high quality UK anime news and reviews to your computer screens each and every day, being sure to maintain high standards of writing and reliability. Still Teen-Rated (13 upwards), I Cannot Reach You continues to offer an engaging and sympathetic view of the pitfalls of crushing on your best friend – yet doesn’t delve too deeply into the problems that can arise when that friend is the same sex as you. It was, however, very-very expensive; sold almost 4 times more than the recommended sale value printed on back of the book from 4 months ago. It’s interesting to see events from Mikoto’s perspective – although as the chapter revolves around the hair accessory which Yamato brought back for her from Kyoto, we not only observe her with her peers (and one cheerful boy in her class who undoubtedly has feelings for her but doesn’t quite know how to express them), we also see – again – that Yamato’s classmate Hosoda has a more than passing interest in her.

For example: (In fiction when this happens: Dog dies:😐, Sibling dies: 😐, Lovers don't end up together: 😐 *sigh I guess it wasn't destined to happen. Although hidden from Kakeru for years, when Yamato’s feelings overflow and he awkwardly hugs Kakeru in a jealous fit, will this be the catalyst they need to confess to each other? And, earlier on, a page on the recording of the third Drama CD which was released at the same time as Volume 5 in Japan.

But the tone conveyed by the art feels very jarring, and the drama and decided lack of communication drags enough that I'll stay away for now. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I really loved seeing Yamato and Kakeru experience all the flavours and confusions of youth as they learn to explore and rediscover what they mean to each other.
